Standard Photopolymer Resin
The highest-resolution AM material, producing parts with smooth surfaces and fine details down to 25 µm. Standard resin is used for concept models, visual prototypes, patterns for investment casting, and jewellery masters.
About Standard Photopolymer Resin
Standard photopolymer resins (acrylate or epoxy-based) are cured layer by layer using UV laser (SLA) or projected UV light (DLP). They produce the smoothest surface finish and finest feature resolution of any AM technology — features as small as 25 µm are routinely achievable.
However, standard resins are inherently brittle and degrade under UV exposure, making them unsuitable for functional or outdoor applications. Their primary value is in visual prototyping, design validation, and as masters/patterns for downstream manufacturing (investment casting, silicone moulding).
Typical Applications
- Visual prototypes and concept models
- Investment casting patterns
- Jewellery masters
- Dental models and surgical guides
- Detailed scale models and architectural maquettes
Engineering Considerations
- Brittle — not for functional or load-bearing parts
- Degrades under UV/sunlight — indoor use only unless coated
- Requires post-curing (UV oven) for final properties
- Support structures leave witness marks requiring manual cleanup
