Dental & Biocompatible Resin
Class IIa biocompatible resins certified for intraoral use. Used for surgical guides, dental splints, clear aligners, and temporary crowns — the fastest-growing AM application in healthcare.
About Dental & Biocompatible Resin
Dental and biocompatible resins are photopolymers specifically formulated and certified for contact with human tissue. They comply with ISO 10993 (biocompatibility), and dental-specific products carry Class IIa MDR certification for intraoral applications.
The dental AM market is one of the most mature and commercially proven AM verticals. Digital workflows — from intraoral scanning to printed guides, aligners, and models — have fundamentally disrupted traditional dental manufacturing.
Typical Applications
- Surgical guides (dental and orthopaedic)
- Clear aligners
- Custom dental splints and night guards
- Temporary crowns and bridges
- Anatomical models for surgical planning
- Hearing aids and ear moulds
Engineering Considerations
- Must use certified biocompatible resin — standard resins are not suitable for intraoral use
- Post-curing and cleaning protocols must follow manufacturer specifications exactly
- Regulatory landscape varies by region (MDR in EU, FDA 510(k) in US)
- Material shelf life is typically 12–18 months
