Tough / ABS-Like Resin
Engineering-grade resin formulated to simulate ABS mechanical properties. Tough resin bridges the gap between brittle standard resins and functional SLS polymers — used for functional prototypes, snap-fits, and short-run production.
About Tough / ABS-Like Resin
Tough resins (such as Formlabs Tough 2000, or equivalent ABS-like formulations) are photopolymer resins engineered for improved impact resistance and elongation compared to standard resins. They deliver tensile strengths of 40–55 MPa with elongation at break of 20–40% — approaching injection-moulded ABS performance.
These materials maintain the surface quality advantage of SLA/DLP while offering enough ductility for snap-fits, clips, and assemblies that would crack in standard resin.
Typical Applications
- Functional prototypes requiring snap-fits
- Short-run production enclosures
- Assemblies and interference-fit components
- Testing jigs and gauges
Engineering Considerations
- Still less durable than SLS/MJF nylons for long-term use
- UV stability is limited — not for outdoor applications
- More expensive per part than SLS PA12 at volume
- Requires post-curing for optimal mechanical properties
